About

Hi I’m Lochie, a passionate drummer, teacher, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from Australia. I moved to London in 2022 to be part of what I think is the best music scene in the world and have since worked with the likes of Alan McGee (Oasis), Youth (Killing Joke, The Verve), Mike Chapman (Blondie, Mud) along with many other talented artists and producers and have toured Europe.

Since winning the Billy Hyde International Drum Play Offs at the age of 13, I've performed and recorded with over 30 bands across Australia, the US and the UK, released 3 albums of my own music, collaborated on countless more. Learning drums and making music has made life more fun than I could have imagined and I believe it can do the same for others if you have the right guidance to prop up your belief!

Over the past 12 years I’ve been developing a world of fun, well-rounded and creative educational techniques to help people of all ages and skill levels achieve their musical goals.

I've had a lot of proud moments through my teaching career - seeing students excel in the studio, on stage and create and release their own music and music videos.

I’ve also developed ‘Beat Missions’ (a drumming Video Game) and pioneered ‘Heirs to the Tone’: A live music event where students get to perform their favourite music with professional musicians and get paid for it! I plan to make this an annual event in London.

What students are saying

Gemma - Jay’s mum

“ Lochie has been instrumental in inspiring my son Jay to not only learn to play drums but also have a love for music and an understanding of the layers of songs. He goes above and beyond in making the lessons fun, yet still challenging Jay to improve. The way he treats youngsters with the same respect and engagement as he would with adults is a rare treat. I can’t recommend him highly enough.”

“Lochie is one of those rare all rounders - talented as a drummer, musician, performer and teacher. I had the luck of being one of his drumming students for over a year. During that year I developed a passion for drumming and some life long skills to appreciate, read and create music.

Lochie's passion is contagious, his patience has no end and he adapts his teaching to suit you and what you want out of the lessons. I can't recommend him enough!”

Sabrina

“Inspirational and talented teacher, best music teacher my son has ever had.”

Andy (Luca's Dad)

“As a complete beginner without a drum kit, I had no idea if learning to play the drums would be possible.

One week later with Lochie, I could confidently say it's very achievable!

Each lesson is still as fun as the first - even after two years. Lochie will shape his teaching around each individual student. There are no prior assumptions of your experience, your musical taste or what you want you want to get out of learning.

I've never enjoyed a hobby so much and I strongly recommend this experience to anyone!”

Alice

“Lochie is a fantastic drum teacher and all-round musician. He is a talented drummer who is patient and kind, and has a gift for connecting with people, especially children, in a way that brings out their love for music and the desire to continue learning their instrument. When Lochie accepted our invitation to run Montessori East’s after-school band club, he turned it into the school’s most successful music program to date. The highlight for all of us was the show Lochie produced, where each child got to showcase their talent by performing with a real band made up of Lochie’s talented musician friends, up on stage at a live music venue. He went above and beyond to give the children a taste of what it’s really like to be in a band. From a parent’s perspective, Lochie has been the best teacher for my son. With his guidance, he has helped my son gain a place at a selective performing arts high school in Sydney. Top recommendations for Lochie!”

Mimmette Roldan Boissonneault (Jake’s Mum)

"I started my musical journey with Lochie Earl and I have progressed at a phenomenal pace thanks to his expertise. Lochie is incredibly capable at all fields from reading and writing sheet music with 1:1 accuracy to explaining advanced techniques in a concise way. Lochie does not only play drums but he masters a wide range of musical instruments that can give you context of what you are playing, which is a great advantage. Overall, you will be extremely pleased and skilled after choosing Lochie Earl as your teacher."
